Eric Meyer is THE guru for all things web-design related. As usual, this book is no exception. What a handy pocket reference to have around, especially for those of us relatively new to web development. Yes, using a book is somewhat old school but, it's organization is easy, quick and direct. No guessing as to what you're looking at. Sometimes, searching on the web can be convoluted, if only just because there are so many opinions and variations on how to do things CSS-wise. What you get from Eric Meyer is consistent and reliable information with examples that make it easy to try yourself or modify. Eventually I won't need to have this reference at my side but, when I'm doing something new (to me), it will be nice to be able to look up the language to use to at least get started with the task. For the newb or pro, a nice reference to have handy.

This little book is very good, and very quick. You can look up what you need and want very easily.The reason that I didn't give it a 5 star, is because its a bit outdated, there have been some new things with CSS, but thats not the book's fault. Its more mine, as I should have been looking more for the CSS3 information.Yes, I do recommend it, its very quick and easy and well presented.

I really should of listened to the other reviews on this one. The idea of a CSS reference sounds great, but the execution of this one is pretty poor. There is no useful index and no indication at the top of the page to let you know what section you are in. It just takes too long to find anything in this book. Save your money and use Google to find what you are looking for. The content of the book is good, just difficult to reference.

I found the format hard to understand and hard to use. Maybe it's the Kindle version. It's not what I thought; you can't learn CSS by it, it's only to look things up. I didn't find it useful, to me, anyway.

The CSS Pocket Reference is just that, a "reference". It is not a lesson guide on using CSS. It will give you the quick syntax when you need it. It also gives a list of the browsers that support each element. Very helpful if you want your page to be compatible with more than one browser.

Clear identifications made possible with this book, as I remember it.

Perfect reference for beginning web designers and college students. I am using this in conjunction with adobe dreamweaver and between the two I am learning at double the rate in my college course!

Gave this 5 stars when they first came out, but the websites available for writing CSS are just so good these days, this isn't nearly as necessary anymore.

I do think the author's perspective is an interesting take. Maybe more suitable for people who don't genuinely suffer from anxiety but are interested in it. In truth, I would not read this again.

I really didn't "get" anxiety until I read this book. I've had friends describe it but I didn't really understand, and a horrible part of me thought they were just being dramatic or attention seeking.Reading this book will help you understand people in your life who have anxiety, and mental health issues.

Wilson’s memoir is engaging, earnest and somewhat frenetic. It is filled with insight, research, grace, near-constant searching and moments of hard-won wisdom. Wilson mentions anxiety, depression, mania and obsessive compulsive disorder. She states that bipolar disorder was diagnosed, but she feels that anxiety is at the root of the debilitating spirals of panic, insomnia and propulsive activity. The label is perhaps not as important as Wilson’s willingness to explore her own dark places in order to find wholeness, solid ground and peace. The journey is circuitous and tangled. Wilson ratchets up and careens down, when seemingly innocuous triggers prompt her anxiety. Her life is depicted as an endless series of painful attempts to corral her fears into a manageable framework that will allow her to live happily. Wilson is buffeted by moods, indecision, frequent travel and a jittery, palpable unease. The book will resonate best with anyone who wrestles with the devastating impact of mental illness. I truly empathize with Wilson’s struggles. She finds meditation, exercise and learning to sit with her discomfort to be invaluable tools for healing, instead of the impulsivity, perpetual change and a pervasive desire to flee whenever anxiety becomes intolerable. Wilson also realizes that age and time give her greater perspective on how to ride out her relentless worry episodes. She finds more balance and self-acceptance, and is able to dwell with her anxiety when it arises, rather than just trying to eradicate it. My issue with the book is in Wilson’s admissions of sometimes deliberately courting her anxiety. She admits to liking the “drama” of it all. It has perhaps become a source of energy and identity that is both as familiar, as it is disabling. At one point, Wilson mentions being awake for several days at a time at the height of her anxiety. Certainly, protracted periods without sleep can bring on mental fragility. If one stays awake as long as Wilson contends, then deterioration of acuity and function would subsequently occur as a result. Because Wilson’s anxiety is so prevalent, it would seem that a strong desire for rest and calm would squelch any behaviors that exacerbate it. Wilson clearly wants to understand her complicated relationship with anxiety, and she succeeds, but perhaps sometimes it serves her too, for the surge of emotional intensity that it provides. It’s that duality that can make the book frustrating, but still an interesting read.

For those who have wrestled with the beast of anxiety — it can be a harrowing, isolating and painful journey. Wilson is very open and honest about her anxiety battleground—which is truly refreshing and encouraging. I especially appreciated the author’s candor on insomnia and the assortment of methods and supplements she uses to fall asleep (as anyone with anxiety can attest—going to bed each night can be daunting and difficult). Though Wilson offers a modern and manic memoir — parts of the book felt too scattered and simple. Tips like meditating, cutting out sugar, etc are underwhelming for the true blue anxiety sufferers who need more than just diet tweaks and gratitude journals. At this point, it’s almost insulting to hear to meditate or practice deep breathing. Duh. These practices while potentially helpful don’t represent earth shattering or groundbreaking advice for mental health warriors. Plus, cutting out sugar is not sustainable nor is moving to the jungle as the author does for periods of time. Interesting insight and great personal stories but needs more realistic healing tactics and fresh ideas for recovery.

A great read which offers a much needed alternative way to think about anxiety, bipolar and health in general. I also found it quite comforting to realise that I’m not alone and also came to understand that Sarah is a deep thinking human - warts and all - and not the perfect guru on a pedestal that many fans have her sitting on. She’s got the smarts - that’s for sure but she also has had the experiences to back her ideas up. Really enjoyed this book.

This book is the best book I've read on anxiety. It is thoroughly researched and contemporary, and Sarah's humour, warmth and self-deprecation make it a refreshing read on an area of mental health often misunderstood and stigmatised. Would (and do as a mental health professional) recommend this book to anyone suffering anxiety. I felt like I was getting everything we know on anxiety, from one book. Exceptionally well-written.

Wow, I now realize that there is someone out there like me who gets it completely. I thought I was alone all of these years. This is a beautiful, important read and one I'll treasure forever.

This is academic, dense, and yet readable, enjoyable, and understandable by common readers... A difficult mix for an author to pull together, and he has done a really good job... Especially very thought-provoking on a very controversial issue... "Satanology".... by one of the greatest Sufi Masters, Ahmad Ghazali, who initiated or rather pulled together -so to speak-, "The School and Metaphysics of Love"... In Islamic Mysticism... An inspiring read... What most DO NOT know and will be happy to find is, in the Persian culture, Ahmad Ghazali is hailed as the greater Saint / Sage, and an inspiration to his better known brother, Abu Hamid Ghazali... This book also briefly addresses that subject, since Abu Hamid Ghazali is much better known in Islamic studies, and one wonders why Ahmad is far less known... Well, it is a tough subject to tackle, but it is here briefly mentioned, and clearly the depth of Ahmad --as usual, when it comes to such subjects-- is ignored, since he gets into far deeper subjects of personal inquiry into the experiential nature of Spirits... A more direct approach, shall we say, to the experiential illuminations of the mystics... Whereas, his brother Abu Hamid delved into these subjects later in his life... This book is a chronicle of the life of Richard Kuklinski, the subject ot the "Ice Man" HBO documentaries.A brief look at his parents and childhood may explain some of what made the man such a dangerous psycopath.Watching some of the HBO documentaries sparked my interest in the "Ice Man". He didn't come across as a crazy man.This man was arguably the most dangerous of all killers. He was on one hand a freelance contract killer and also a serial killer who stalked his prey on Manhattan's West Side. He had no conscience or remorse.His ability to remain anonymous for so long helped him go undetected.Another trait that made him so dangerous was his holding a grudge. He had patience and would wait years for an oppurtuinty to get revenge.He was a paradox also. He had a violent temper and was prone to hurting people or worse for a minor incident such as road rage. But he had compassion for children. He wouldn't kill a woman or child,although he would harm women with impunity.The distance that he tried successfully for so many years to keep his family away from his illegal activities was not the norm either. As a couple Kuklinski and his wife didn't associate with mob couples much at all.One point of contention in the book was Kuklinski's stated involvement in the Hoffa murder. The scenario advanced in this book is somewhat similar to the story found in the Frank Sheeran book. Although Frank "the Irishman" Sheeran gave a more detailed description of the events and is more credible in my opinion.This book is hard to put down,but bear in mind that there are a lot of disturbing,gory details.

Hard to recommend because the subject matter is so evil...don't want to give someone nightmares or expose them to such horrors. Its riveting though if you can stomach it. I will say I have read a ton of books about the mob, and though the same stories and characters are mentioned in most of these other books, just told from different points of view depending on the wise guy telling the story, I have yet to come across any of these mob books written by made guys that mention Kuklinski (or The Pollack) or corroborate any of his tales as the premiere mob hitman he purports he was. Maybe the mafioso are too proud to admit they used a non Italian so often...or maybe he was just a sick serial killer and his mob hits were all in his twisted imagination or at least were greatly exaggerated as far the number of hits he performed on the mobs behalf. Am I really to believe he was on the hit team for 3 of the most infamous mob hits ever (Castellano, Hoffa and Gigante), though no other book written by real mobsters who took part in or planned these hits ever mentions The Iceman? I'm surprised he didn't say he killed JFK too! I don't doubt he was a legit killer and that he did work for the mob on occasion, but I don't believe he was their #1 go to guy or did near the number of mob hits that he claims here.

I watched all three documentaries before reading this book. So my review might be from that perspective. If the book seems slow, give it a while because it gets faster towards the end. Regardless of how much the book is fact vs. fiction, it gives deep insight into Richard and his life. There are a couple of people in the book that he runs into that make you root for Richard briefly. It's a nice change of pace from his constant evil. The stories about his family also show somewhat of a different side, but even there there's some evil.Just as you notice the book seems to be repeating himself (only because Richard kept repeating patterns), the book takes a turn and moves faster and better. I read the last 1/3 in a day, faster than the first part.I don't which is better to read/watch first, this book or documentaries, but I do recommend doing both. The videos will give more insight into his childhood, the book more into his adult "career".

Very solid, paperback comes with rare pictures from Richard’s wife in the middle. Some parts can be very graphic, but the way Philip Carlo writes, it makes even the worst parts bearable enough to want to read through. Very informative on Richard Kuklinski’s beginnings from a family in poverty in Jersey City, New Jersey to his growing criminal tendencies up to the point of him becoming a full blown psychopath. This book is by NO MEANS light reading, but if you are interested in true crime, the inner workings of a criminal organization, psychology and the inner workings of a true psychopath, or just want some interesting bathroom reading, Philip Carlo, as always, delivers with “The Ice Man”.

It's an interesting read because of the subject matter. Always fun to see when mob stories start to overlap and you garner a complete picture of organized crime's dynamic. And this particular guy is a character you've never even thought could exist.The missing star in my review is a result of repetitive text. There are several themes and recollections that resurface over and over and over... these entries make reading tedious and unnecessary. It's either an odd way to remind the audience that Kuklinski's personality was always at odds, or it was just an editing oversight. This really began to get under my skin about halfway through.Still worth a read - just not worth going through a second time.When you finish, check out the interviews on YouTube that eventually led to this book. This guy is fascinating.

The author sets out a long list of questions in the prologue for which he gives answers throughout the book using quite simplistic theory that he came up with. Surprisingly, the theory provides some convincing explanations and makes you rethink some commonly accepted notions about how we act and behave. The book will definitely make you think a lot, whether you agree with the author or not.

He was fortunate to have the undivided attention of the Creator for questions and answers sessions. A privilege of no easy feat for sure considering God multitasks and attends to the needs of the infinitely larger universe constantly. Not since Fyodor Dostoyevsky's "Brothers Karamazov" has another story by a Russian author impressed me and moved me so deeply in the Ecclesiastical nature. Both Dostoyevsky's classic and Bagisbayev modern tale have similar themes. The meaning of life and the pursuit of true happiness for the human race. But Dostoyevsky and Bagisvayev delivered their messages very differently and both styles were brilliant. Contrasting to the narrative omniscient style of Dostoyevsky, Bagisvayev, in the first voice, had a series of heart to heart humorous dialogues with God, on the mysteries of life and the course of human race with Gods taking a non-intervention role by taking a backseat after He had established the unchanging laws of nature since the beginning of time. In addition was a gift of two specific laws God had given to mankind, the law of gene preservation and the law of freedom of choice. These twin engines would drive the human race since the beginning of human history, and would elegantly explain all events, past, present and future, including revolutions and rise and fall of empires. The dialogue between man and God, however got more serious towards the latter half of the story. A paramount third law that would save mankind and society was revealed. The law of compassion, introduced at a critical epoch in time 2000 years ago. Jesus did get disproportionately more time then other prophets mentioned in the story. Man used his precious privilege to clarify a key nomenclature of Jesus. Is he "the Son of God" or "Son of Man". That evoked thoughts of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples and even his enemy, Judas. Jesus in his humility repeatedly exhorted his disciples while he was alive that the lowliest will be the greatest when they serve all. Jesus would most surely want to be called "son of man" because he was the servant king. Finally, amusing yet sobering for me was Man's departing confession and gratitude to God in the epilogue that Man had loved many women in his life based on the law of gene preservation and freedom of choice. But Man admitted these two laws were selfish because while these laws guided him to happiness it was not reciprocated onto the women he loved. In contrast, the women (and men) in the tale of Brothers Karamazov had loved Alexei Karamazov so ecstatically and overwhelmingly even though Alexei did not practice the law of gene preservation. Instead Alexei practised the greater law, the law of compassion.

This is a strange little book written in junior high school level prose that questions the essential laws of the universe. Its kind of challenging because even though it is narrated in part by 'God." The basic premise is to question the existence of God and totallyh tear down religion. This author even trashes the ten commandments. Its kind of fun because it evokes Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner but this book is deadly serious,

Many of these theories have been stated before, but this book seems to explain them on a level that would appeal to many different people. Certainly, not everyone will appreciate this book, but if you’re looking for something religious with a bit of Russian philosophical flavor, this one fills the bill.

We purchased this book for our niece. We did note that some of the subject matter might be questioned for certain ages (e.g. orgasms, dancing getting you laid, and morning wood). I found no recommended age information, nor was I aware of this subject matter when I preordered (it's very likely I didn't research thoroughly, as I am a fan).I will note that these are all natural aspects of life, and nothing objectively negative for a younger child to be exposed to. The terminology used in that presentation might be questioned (some may prefer formal terminology over informal), and the potential social ramifications of having a child educated in such matters could, sadly, be an issue, however. My wife and I are fine with it, but our niece's parents and grandparents have different opinions than we do on some things. Just something to think about.

This book explores the type of questions that usually only a kid would ask, and digs deep into giving an in depth answer that that same kid would understand. It's good for the curious, regardless of whether they are science illiterate or hold one or many PhD's in STEM fields. Granted, many things are oversimplified, but given the circumstances and the general atmosphere in which this book is meant to be read, I believe the guys at Asap Science made a great product here.Unrelated to the book itself: I got myself the Kindle version and yet it wasn't compatible with my eReader device (Kindle Paperwhite), so beware if you are getting the soft copy.

I did a search for books for 8-13 year olds and this book popped up. My grandson loves science and always has questions about the unusual. I bought the book as a birthday gift for him. The book description talks about science and says it is a fun read. Thank goodness I leafed through it before giving it to him. This is an adult book and definitely not appropriate for anyone under the age of 21! The book description is not accurate and did not say anything about the adult content in this book. I'm sending it back.

LOVE THIS BOOK, it is essentially the AsapSCIENCE Youtube videos in book form. It's a fun, clever and easy to read to pick up and browse through and also to sit and read to feed your brain. I leave it on my coffee table and guests have fun looking through it. If you're a fan of the YouTube videos, this is definitely a must buy, and if you're a fan of knowledge, this is also a must buy. I do caution sharing it with children though as some are definitely fun for kids, there are some more adult topics you might want to clear with their parents first.

The book itself is super cute. I'm sure my little girl will love it. The condition however is horrible, how am I supposed to give this as a gift? It is supposed to be a brand new book, yet the cover is all screwed up as you can see in the pictures. I also feel really ripped off since I paid $8 for the book and the seller left the $5.99 Barnes and Noble Bargin Price on the front. I will NEVER buy from this seller again. Ridiculous.

MIddle school grandson loves books and is an information magnet. He loves this and walks around quoting the facts he learns until people freak out. It's so funny and I adore giving him good info to expand his thinking. Nice book. Nice printing and paper. There are serious facts and things that make him laugh out loud. Glad I found this book.

I bought the book for my 12 years old son. He loves to watch asapscience videos. Thought he will enjoy the book too. Nevertheless, the content of the book is good he has not been as interested to read it than to watch ithe videos. He has read a few themes of the book but continuos to prefer the videos. I bought it too because is a way to support the asapscience project. The more funds the get the more videos that they will have available. Love their work, think is a wonderful, educational way for kids to watch interesting and some what complex informations in a fun, friedly format.

My grandkids love this book. They also like reading it out loud be aus3 of the way is written. Grandparents: read through the table of contents to make sure you’re ok with all of the topics.

Johannes Fink is a Professor of Polymer Chemistry at Montanuniversität Leoben in Vienna, Austria. Dr. Fink teaches macromolecular chemistry. His career spans for more than thirty years in the field of polymers, including characterization, flame retardancy and pyrolysis of polymers. If you're looking for a resource that is founded/supported in scientific research (and not opinion or an engineer's perspective), this is NOT the book you want. I bought this book because I was looking for a resource explaining why each chemical was used, and I could see from the "Look Inside" option that literature was cited by the book. Unfortunately, most of the in-text citations are to US Patent applications, which are useless to me as a researcher. This book does not really describe anything more than what you can find on any "hydraulic fracturing" website. Also, I was disappointed that this really only gave one side of the story…the oil & gas industry/engineer's point of view, which is obviously biased.
