Reprint of a 20 year old book. None of the currently popular drinks are included. The typeface is blurry, like it was simply copied from an old print version. Waste of money.

And, we are planning on making 3 new kinds of drinks tomorrow. It was a great divorce "lift her soul" gift. we love. it. This is a scandalously bad job of printing a book, the worst I have ever seen.If you know the publishing history, you may be able to track down the first printing as a used book. Printed in hardcover in 1991, paperback in 1993. "First revised HarperPaperbacks Printing: November 1999. Cover Photograph (C) 2000 FPG." So look for the 1991 or 1993 printing.I don't like being forced to assign a star value this review. I have nothing against the content, and will make use of the book, but is it not a satisfying book to own.If you're getting only one book of this sort, consider Mr. Boston, Platinum Edition, which has more recipes, the same background information, and beautiful color photos.

This one has a great variety, including obscure and historical drinks, and organized in an easy-to-find tale of contents and glossary. If I want a mixed drink with vodka in it, I turn to the chapter about vodka and it gives me several drink ideas that have vodka in them and I can make up my mind that way. If I was curious what was in a Harvey Wallbanger, I could leaf through the book until I find the entry for Harvey Wallbanger and then it will tell me the ingredients and how much to use and what kind of glass to use.I also wanted to say that I was impressed by the fact that the seller sent me an e-mail telling me that the shipment would be delayed because of the weather. Not a lot of sellers would do that. Even though it was delayed, it still arrived earlier than expected. I would definitely buy from this seller again.

Instead they pursued government trade restrictions, government subsides and protectionism to suck more money from aging facilities and processes.Robert McNamara at Ford, who later became US Secretary of Defense under Lyndon Johnson, epitomizes the bean counters who drove the industry into the ground. He is most well known for insisting on the Vietnam Wars body count measure as a proxy for winning the war. That didn't turn out so well.This lesson is not unique to the auto industry. Similar books could be written about the steel industry, the shipping industry, and many others. You snooze you lose.

Very detailed history of Ford and Nissan from 1900 into the 1980's. The author has it right with his historical differences between union and corporate policies in American and Japanese auto industries, along with cultural differences between the two countries. Probably the most interesting is the union histories in the two countries and oil price manipulation from Middle East and resultant chaos. He attempts to make sense of the reasons that Japanese cars overtook American cars in quality, reliability and value when Ford and GM had such a massive head start. He accomplishes some of that and is very interesting reading but gets bogged down in repetitive details and seems to have a vendetta against Ford. Or, maybe Ford's management was more interesting because of personality quirks, unlike the others. GM, Chrysler, and Japanese management had huge problems, but Ford's were unique because the family had such leverage. Ford had a huge lead against GM also and Henry blew that all by himself. Still, GM and Chrysler management failures played a big part in the automotive disasters of the 70's and 80's, along with union complicity. This book is dated, much has changed since the 1980's, it needs to be updated, much can be deleted or better analyzed.

The late David Halberstam did a fine job of telling the rise and demise of the U.S. automotive industrial base in The Reckoning. Honestly, the first chapter explains far too much of how we decided to hand off the hard work of making things in exchange for the pointless, easy, and shortsighted finance and bankster hustle. I recently toured the Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI. The Ford propaganda is a lot funnier with "The Reckoning" as a background. Henry gets a lot of credit for ideas, work, and products that his far more talented employees did. Overall, this was a good cookbook. There were a lot of recipes, most with regular ingredients that a lot of people have on hand (or can actually find in their grocery store). The instructions were simple and easy to follow. The one thing I didn't like though was that there weren't any pictures. I like to see pictures in cookbooks to have an idea of what the finished product should look like.*I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is my honest review.*

Full disclosure, I skimmed. I skimmed over the introduction, so this might be in there already. I need someone to tell me the baking dish they are using in the instant pot. I have a 6 quart and I dont know other than my springform pan that will go in there. There are many recipes in here I can't wait to try, they seem like ingredients I have or would use.I did receive an ARC of this book, but am leaving my review voluntarily.

This is a really good cookbook chopped full of yummy recipes. It's fairly well laid and organized nicely. I like the fact it offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, vegan and snacks, oh and desserts. AHHHH! It's not a stand-alone book, which means I now have to wait for the rest of the story!I bought this almost on a whim, liking the idea of Jane Austen meets X Men, but not expecting much, and was SO pleasantly surprised. The whole beginning of the book is just plain fun, with witty banter and flirting, so is really appealing to fans of historical romance. Then the book turns more serious and philosophical and becomes enjoyable on a completely different level.Honestly, there was not that much romance in it, so don't let that stop you from buying it if you are not a romance fan. I can usually see plot twists and surprises a mile away (this happens when you are an adult reader of YA), but this book fooled me. I was surprised by the sophistication of the writing style and loved how the theme of "masks" is explored.I am eagerly awaiting more of the story and wanting Evelyn to get together with her love interest. I can't wait to see what new powers we will encounter in the next book. I think the biggest compliment you can give a book is that, once you are finished with it, you want to start reading it all over again immediately. This book is definitely one of those!

This book was so much FUN! I adored the main character Evelyn. She was a blast and everything you'd want in a friend and her inner dialogue was hilarous! This story has a little bit of something for everyone. It's hard to write a spoiler free review but I think that even if the blurb doesn't appeal to you that you should really give the sample a chance because you won't be able to put it down and will end up hooked right away like I was. The plot and all of characters are well developed and interesting. There is action and suspense to keep you turning those pages. There are also two very swoon worthy guys. One more so than another but I really liked them both for different reasons. The book ends really well as it leaves you wanting the next book badly but not exactly hanging on the edge of a cliff plus it feels like these characters' adventures are just beginning! These two authors have written such a addicting, exciting, absolutely enjoyable debut. I can't wait until the next book!!!

This is a stand-alone novel with a love triangle and a cliffhanger ending, which promises a sequel.I chose to read this book solely based on its comparison to X-Men. It was a very fair comparison!Evelyn and her sister Rose are being forced into a high society, a life they don’t want to live. Their mother expects them to attend balls and find husbands while they prefer to tend to the sick as nurses. When Rose disappears, Evelyn must enlist help from a man she can’t stand to find her. She learns what she is capable of and is introduced to a world she didn't know existed.There were a couple of things about this book that really worked for me. The first was Evelyn. She was supposed to act proper and represent her family name in the most respectable way. However, she cared for none of it. She was hysterical and tenacious. She wouldn’t let anyone push her around or limit what she could do as a woman in the Victorian era.I also really enjoyed the love triangle. Although I had a clear favorite, and I believe Evelyn did too, there was a lot of back and forth between the men and her feelings for them. When a love triangle is done well, it's very exciting to see who's going to win. Since I loved Evelyn so much, I was invested in who she'd end up with. Unfortunately, the book ended with a cliffhanger before that question was answered, and I need the sequel yesterday.I truly enjoyed this one. For fans of super-hero fantasy, this is a must-read! I'm looking forward to the next book in this series. The characters are too good to not see how it ends.This book earns 3.5 North of Normal stars!

These Vicious Masks is the first installment in co-authors Tarun Shanker, & Kelly Zekas These Vicious Masks series. The story is set in 1882 Victorian Era England where 17-year old protagonist Evelyn Wyndham has had enough of parties, and doing what her mother wants her to do. She wants to be like her friend and travel the continent, and live the life that she wants. But, when her sister Rose disappears after a night of strange happenings with only a bizarre note left behind, Evelyn travels to London against her parents wishes in an attempt to find her.Evelyn doesn't travel alone. She instead finds herself in the company of Nicholas Kent who truly believes that he is the greatest detective in the world. Then, there is Sebastian Braddock who claims that both Evelyn and her sister Rose are of extraordinary talents thanks to something called saltation. It is also what brought Rose to the attention of the sinister villain in this story. Kent and Braddock couldn't be more unlike. Kent is more socially liked, even though his family is a royal pain, while Braddock is dark, and troubled, and has a hard time not pushing people too far.One of the things that really stands out to me is Evelyn herself. She's feisty, she hates being put in one category or another, and she could give a good pox if anyone calls her names while searching for Rose in rather unpleasant environments for a so called Lady. Evelyn apparently has the talent of healing which makes things interesting when in search of her sister. As things start to piece themselves together, Evelyn finds that Sebastian has been right all along. It will be up to the combined efforts of Evelyn, Braddock, Kent, and Alice Gray to try and rescue Rose from the sinister villain.I hesitate in comparing this book to the X-Men. There are those with extraordinary abilities, yes, but nothing like Wolverine, or Storm, or Cyclops, or even Professor Xavier. Characters in this story can not only heal themselves and others, but they bring about death by touch, can make people tell the truth, are able to create portals, and one can even mimic the appearance of anyone she encounters. A positive for me was the lack of a cliffhanger ending. Even though I was definitely prepared to deal with one after all that happens, it never came. Instead, the authors use the final chapter to bridge to the next installment in the series. A book that I will be reading shortly.
