He can treat people monstrously and there are not only NOT consequences, the man actually advances with every failure and gains new allies. Perhaps his most audacious stunt was the utterly false claim that Prince Charles and Princess Diana had joined the club. They hadn’t, but so what? Trump hasn’t been without humiliations but it’s how he plays them that’s a thing of beauty – Trump became aware of Marla Maples tryst on the beach and rather than divorcing her immediately he waited for the buzz to die down before making his move to increase the chances that the story would seem untrue. Among other things, Mar-a-Lago may be the only real business success Trump has ever had despite the farce that he’s a self-made billionaire. Leamer can really write and this book is a blast to read, that is when you’re not in a state of disbelief about the stuff Trump pulls (and gets away with).

I like books about interesting houses, and this book is good. The house description is fine- I've read about Mrs. Merriweather-Post and have seen Dina Merrill in movies when she was acting. I've seen promos for this book that says Trump was King. This might have been what he thought, but he gave the people of Palm Beach nothing but a lot of headaches. Down there he was nothing. His taste in house décor (plastic ice buckets from his casinos in the bedrooms), his manners- he had none- his wish to fit in and was never able to. He was embarrassing in his speech, gauche in his entertaining, and never made it with the right people. He thought he could move down to the old established community and be "one of them" but he tried to build new homes, went to court, sued people and generally upset everyone. He was then as he is now. His way or bust. I liked the writing, very easy to read and the descriptions of the house made me want to take a tour, or at least see it, flying over. I've been to that area several times but I was always just on the outskirts. The book is worth reading to get an idea of who he is and how he operates.

As always, Larry Leamer delivers the goods. Full of detail and insight, "Mar-a-Lago" makes clear that all you need to know about Trump is revealed in his Florida escapades: his narcissism, crassness, racism, bullying, boorishness -- you name it. Incredibly, one almost comes close to feeling sorry for this lonely, needy man. Nah -- Trump is too cruel for that. But the author wields his scepter with a velvet glove. No overwrought prose here, just facts from the people who know Trump. Turns out Trump is the perfect match for the equally vacuous Palm Beach, which Leamer also captures perfectly.

This is a great read of you're interested in how the Winter Whitehouse came to be. The people who are the old money of Palm Beach.DETEST HIM. And they have never stopped. This is a good read filled with answers to questions you didn't know you had. If you're not already sick of Trump, I recommend it.

First off this is a great book, if you are a Bond fan this this is a must own, but if you are a real Bond you'll own Both copies because there are some differences between the two books other than the price $52 for the Spectre Edition and depending where you get the original Edition $130, except for the Spectre information the books have all the same information and all the pages up to that are the same, here's where things change up a bit the Spectre Edition is smaller...quite a bit smaller 10x13 and 8 pounds compared to 12.5x19 and 16 pounds the Original Edition comes with a Brown Cardboard carrying case, The cover material is different the Original Edition has a tight Alligator print compared to a smooth cover and both books the corners and spine are covered in a black canvas, The Original Edition also comes with a 35mm film strip (I got Dr. NO), The one problem I have with both books is they needed to be two volumes and needed a sleeve to keep the book in (there is something about a book when it comes with it own sleeve which helps with presentation). If you have never seen the original then the Spectre Edition is AWESOME because you can't miss what you didn't know about, if you prefer a smaller book, this one handles better I was half way finished with the first book but could only really read it in the living room or my office, this Edition I can read in bed (it's still big and a little heavy) but overall I glad I got it I do plan on keeping bot copies, I hope that they figure out a way to add the next few films without having to reprint the whole book over again

My rating is five stars for the content of the book, I am a big Bond fan and have many books on Bond and own all the films. This is currently my favorite Bond book. I agree with the reviews of the book regarding its content. I've read the book almost cover to cover and there is so much information I have learned about the making of the films from those involved, Produces, Directors, Actors, Photographers, Stunt Men, etc. I have never seen most of the hundreds of the photographs in the book which was a real treat. It made me watch about a dozen of the films again!One star rating for the quality of the binding. As a book collector who owns over 3,000 books and about a third of them large books on Art, Architecture and Photography I can tell you that beside content, there are three important aspects to an oversized book: Binding, Print Quality and Paper Quality. This book fails miserably on the quality of the binding as the signatures (groups of pages) are glued into the spine and not sewn. A big no no with a book this heavy and this large and with this many pages. The binding should have been sewn and not glued. Not only that, cheap glue was used that did not adhere to the signatures with the result that the book began to fall apart as I was reading it carefully on a flat surface. The glued binding will not take the stress of being left open. By the time I got to "The Living Daylights" several signatures were already loose. I suspected by the time I would finish the book, they would fall out. There is no way this book will stand up to repeated viewing or reading. Disappointing and not acceptable!I own about fifty Taschen Art and Architecture Books, among them such heavyweights such as "Diego Rivera: The Complete Murals" and "Joan Blaeu Atlas Maior 1655" which have sewn bindings and which I have perused many times with no problems with the bindings. The James Bond Archive was printed and bound in China and the quality is inferior. I contacted Taschen, informed them of the problem and sent them photos which I have attached to this review. They sent me a return label and a replacement copy so they do stand behind their product, but this took me time to write several emails, pack the book, go to the UPS office, track the shipment, etc. and I was without the book for almost two weeks. The replacement copy does not seem to have this problem (yet) but I am very careful the way I handle the book.It is my hope that my book was the one bad apple in the barrel, but I want all potential buyers to beware of this potential problem! This is why I gave this a three star rating overall, five stars for content and one star for binding! Also a big hassle having to contact Taschen, packing the book, dropping it off at the UPS Office, tracking the shipment to and from Taschen, etc.

The content of this book is nicely put together. Being a 007 aficionado, I totally love that the inside of the covers was the shooting schedule and call sheet for "From Russia with Love". I enjoyed reading the additional materials that I didn't know before as well as being excited to see stuff that I've seen elsewhere being included in this book.However, my main issue is the quality of this book in terms of it being put together. When I received this book from Amazon, it was in a very big box. The book itself had no cardboard backing or shrink wrap around it. Also, on my book, the edge of the top binder arrived dented out of the box. Maybe it was from shipping, the bad packaging, or maybe the work from publishing company. However, you would think for this kind of movie memorabilia book, it would at least be shrink wrap.Someone else pointed out that the binders were coming apart after a few readings and I have to agree to that as well as I too am starting to see my pages starting to come apart from the binders.Overall I would have returned this book, but it would seem like I would get another bad quality book put together. So since I'm not really a book collector, just a fan, I guess I can live with these kind of defects.But I probably won't buy another book from this publishing company.

The several books out this time however seem to be lacking focus. "The James Bond Archives: SPECTRE Edition" is an outstanding film by film collection of artistic text and photographs and ideas that went into these films. This book is a great addition to my library. It truly has a succinct structure and delves intensely through many of the elements that went into the films with a concerted effort to intelligently assemble the progression of ideas that resulted in the look, feel and texture of the series, and the non-series films, as a whole. However, I was glad to see that this edition was reduced in size because it makes handling the book and turning the pages more manageable. THis is a must have book. This is an excellent Edition of The James Bond Archives and it was good to see that SPECTRE was covered in detail. Well done.

The thing I like best about this book is that most garden books are written for northern or central-us gardeners. This one tells me what will work in Memphis, and when to start it. Plus, Felder Rushing is really, really funny. I've had this book for several years and refer to it frequently during the growing season and for planning, when I'm thinking about trying new vegetables.

Reprint of a 20 year old book. None of the currently popular drinks are included. The typeface is blurry, like it was simply copied from an old print version. Waste of money.

The paperback currently sold as new apparently was not printed from the original typeset version. It appears to have been scanned, then printed on a highly porous cheap paper with high dot gain. As a result, the type appears uneven and almost blurry. The letters in the headings run together and sometimes plug up (e.g. the capital B appears as a solid blob). This is a scandalously bad job of printing a book, the worst I have ever seen.If you know the publishing history, you may be able to track down the first printing as a used book. Printed in hardcover in 1991, paperback in 1993. "First revised HarperPaperbacks Printing: November 1999. Cover Photograph (C) 2000 FPG." So look for the 1991 or 1993 printing.I don't like being forced to assign a star value this review. I have nothing against the content, and will make use of the book, but is it not a satisfying book to own.If you're getting only one book of this sort, consider Mr. Boston, Platinum Edition, which has more recipes, the same background information, and beautiful color photos.

Still much better (in my opinion) than other similar books by other authors. This one has a great variety, including obscure and historical drinks, and organized in an easy-to-find tale of contents and glossary. What is it with new publishers ... you see less glossaries and table of contents in books these days. Glad this book took the time and consideration to make a quality catalog.

If I want a mixed drink with vodka in it, I turn to the chapter about vodka and it gives me several drink ideas that have vodka in them and I can make up my mind that way. If I was curious what was in a Harvey Wallbanger, I could leaf through the book until I find the entry for Harvey Wallbanger and then it will tell me the ingredients and how much to use and what kind of glass to use.I also wanted to say that I was impressed by the fact that the seller sent me an e-mail telling me that the shipment would be delayed because of the weather. Not a lot of sellers would do that. Even though it was delayed, it still arrived earlier than expected. I would definitely buy from this seller again.

That was the last opportunity for American manufacturers to wise up and build better cars. Instead they pursued government trade restrictions, government subsides and protectionism to suck more money from aging facilities and processes.Robert McNamara at Ford, who later became US Secretary of Defense under Lyndon Johnson, epitomizes the bean counters who drove the industry into the ground. He is most well known for insisting on the Vietnam Wars body count measure as a proxy for winning the war. That didn't turn out so well.This lesson is not unique to the auto industry. Similar books could be written about the steel industry, the shipping industry, and many others. You snooze you lose.

Very detailed history of Ford and Nissan from 1900 into the 1980's. The author has it right with his historical differences between union and corporate policies in American and Japanese auto industries, along with cultural differences between the two countries. Probably the most interesting is the union histories in the two countries and oil price manipulation from Middle East and resultant chaos. He attempts to make sense of the reasons that Japanese cars overtook American cars in quality, reliability and value when Ford and GM had such a massive head start. He accomplishes some of that and is very interesting reading but gets bogged down in repetitive details and seems to have a vendetta against Ford. Or, maybe Ford's management was more interesting because of personality quirks, unlike the others. GM, Chrysler, and Japanese management had huge problems, but Ford's were unique because the family had such leverage. Ford had a huge lead against GM also and Henry blew that all by himself. Still, GM and Chrysler management failures played a big part in the automotive disasters of the 70's and 80's, along with union complicity. This book is dated, much has changed since the 1980's, it needs to be updated, much can be deleted or better analyzed.

The late David Halberstam did a fine job of telling the rise and demise of the U.S. automotive industrial base in The Reckoning. Henry Ford, industrial might, WW2, unions, oil, oil embargoes, Detroit, Japan, Korea, junk bonds, leveraged buy outs, protectionism, and so on. David Halberstam was the greatest non-fiction author of his generation and this book is a masterpiece. If you want to have an idea where the US manufacturing expertise went, this book is a good start. Honestly, the first chapter explains far too much of how we decided to hand off the hard work of making things in exchange for the pointless, easy, and shortsighted finance and bankster hustle. I recently toured the Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI. The Ford propaganda is a lot funnier with "The Reckoning" as a background. Henry gets a lot of credit for ideas, work, and products that his far more talented employees did. Like most robber barons, he was incredibly lucky and almost any twist of fate could have put him and his cars in the history basket with Whippet and the host of industrial losers.
